At the past presentation, PlayStation State of Play 2K and the Gearbox Software studio presented a 20-minute demonstration video and new Borderlands 4 gameplay trailer. For the first time, two of the four new storage seekers that will be available in the game were shown. VEX is a siren that can strengthen himself or call the shadow allies, and Rafa is a former soldier of the Tediore Corporation, using experimental exocostyum capable of creating a whole arsenal of weapons. Each of the heroes has a unique style of the game, and their capabilities are configured through the most advanced skills system in the history of the series.
The events of Borderlands 4 unfold on the planet Kayros, whose regions are connected by a seamless open world. For thousands of years, the planet has been ruled by an antagonist named the Keeper of Time, who hid it from the outside world and controlled the population with the help of cybernetic implants called the bolts and army of synthetic soldiers, known as order. Players have to travel in four unique regions, fight with various fractions and make with new and returned characters, some of which will be able to the player, replenishing the ranks of resistance. They also promise updated equipment and arsenal systems.
The demonstration shows a fragment from the location of Terminus Range – a classified object in a mountainous ice zone. The gameplay shows the possibilities of a processed weapon system, including eight manufacturers of both new and acquaintances in previous parts, each of which offers unique characteristics. The system of licensed modifications is presented, which allows you to combine the effects of different manufacturers in one weapon. New types of equipment were also added: an additional strengthening slot, a separated slot for grenades and heavy weapons, and Rep Kit is an object that provides auxiliary effects, including treatment and temporary buffs.
The cooperative regime, on which the game is oriented, also received improvements. The developers introduced the process of creating a group, and also made changes to the gameplay, adding an individual loot for each player, a scalable level of complexity and tuning for different ing styles.
The release of Borderlands 4 is scheduled for September 12 for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S. The version for Switch 2 is expected later in 2025.
