Nexon closed the South Korean servers of MMORPG Maplestory 2 after almost ten years from the date of their launch. The developers from NSQUARE, together with Nexon and NCSoft, created the game as a full replacement of the cult maplestory, but in the end the sequel could not survive the original.
During the launch of Korean servers, the starting online exceeded 200 thousand s, which initially inspired optimism regarding the future project. However, some of the players were quite quickly disappointed in the game for a variety of reasons: from new graphics and stylistics to technical problems and meager variety of content. The developer team made several attempts to return the audience, but in the end it was decided to close the servers.
“Unfortunately, we decided that in the circumstances we will no longer be able to provide updates that our clients will be satisfied with, and after long discussions, we made this difficult decision.”
The global version of the game was launched in October 2018 and was closed in May 2020. And in China, the game was closed in November 2022.
